Think about what your life might be like when you recover and try to make a list of some of the things you might need. You can use the time between now and your surgery to gather those items and prepare for your recovery. Some of the things you mist list are: supplies like food so you do not have to leave the house as often, help from family and friends, books and movies or other entertainment items, and household preparations. As you move through your house thinking about your recovery, make sure you prepare your bathroom and shower area for your safety. You will also want to put the most used items on the main floor of your house so you do not have to take the stairs as often. You might even want to try hopping around on one foot while doing everyday activities to get a better idea of what you might need.
Create Command Post
When you are sick, where do you rest? Find a comfortable location in your house where you think you will be spending most of your time. You can then create a command post nearby with a number of things that you might need while you rest and recover. Some of the supplies might include your phone, a laptop computer, a clock, the TV, a TV tray for meals, pillows to elevate your foot and rest your back, paper and pens, lotion and other such items. These are the things that you might need often, but will not want to get up to retrieve. Your command post will help you get through your resting periods while you recover.
