Ankle surgery tipsWhen you have surgery of any kind, you have a physical challenge in front of you.  Short recoveries can seem very long and long recoveries can seem like eternity.  As you prepare for your recovery, you will recover faster if you keep these ten items in mind.


1. Keep Weight Off Your Healing Ankle

2. Be Reasonable

It might be hard for you to think of yourself first, but after surgery, if you really want to recover, you need to do what is best for you.  If that means resting before doing the laundry for the rest of the family, then rest.

5. Be Prepared

6. Take Your Time

No matter what your task, make sure that you take your time doing it.  Things you took for granted in the past like taking a shower will take much more time.  Be patient with yourself and allow for extra time for each and every task.


7. Admit Defeat

When you run across something you simply cannot do or something you are struggling to do, admit to yourself and to others that you are not yourself and ask for help.  There are plenty of people around you who will likely jump in and help when needed and asked.


8. Eat Healthy

In order for your body to heal itself during your recovery, make sure you get the proper nutrients.  Sugary snacks are okay on occasion, but eat the fruits and veggies first.


9. Stay Active

Just because you have had surgery does not mean you should sit on the couch all day everyday. Keep your mind active with books and puzzles and get up and move around every hour or so.  Check with your health care provider as there maybe exercises you can still do after ankle surgery to stay in shape.


10. Follow Orders

Take any orders your doctor has given you into account and follow them as closely as possible.  They know your situation better than anyone and want to see you heal quickly.  They don't want you to be a permanent patient
